Durrr Challenge Resumes after Six Day Break

The Durrr Challenge has resumed play once again after Tom Dwan and Patrik Antonius had a six day layoff from play. The high stakes tables at Full Tilt Poker were bursting at the seams so both players decided to get in on the action instead of continuing their challenge. They did however, finally squeeze some hands in on Sunday.

On Sunday, 1st of March they played 226 hands of poker. They have now completed 4,178 hands of the 50,000 hands required to determine a winner of the challenge. At this point in the Durrr Challenge it is Tom Dwan who has the lead. He is up over $140,000 on Full Tilt Poker professional Patrik Antonius.

There were two memorable hands in this short session, with one won by each player. The first pot of $72,000 was won by Dwan. Antonius raised pre-flop to $1200 and Dwan called to see a flop of A-K-J. Antonius made a continuation bet of $2400 with Dwan raising to $6700. Antonius called and the players saw an 8 come on the turn. Dwan bet $15,800, only to see Antonius go all in for $28,499.50. Dwan called and tabled 3-A-4-A for top trips. Antonius had him dominated with the flopped straight holding Q-10-K-8. Dwan needed the board to pair and that is exactly what happened. The K came on the river to give him a better full house and the pot.

The other notable hand of the day was won by Antonius. Dwan raiser to $1200 pre-flop, with Antonius raising to $3600. Dwan called and the players saw a flop of 2-7-5 with two clubs. Antonius bet $7200 with Dwan calling to see the king of spades land on the turn. Antonius bet $21,600 with Dwan calling once again. The river brought a third club and Antonius shoved his remaining $29,000 to see Dwan call the rest of his stack. Antonius showed 10-J-8-8 with two clubs to take the pot down.

For those that haven’t already heard, the Durrr Challenge consists of four tabling Pot Limit Omaha. If Dwan’s challenger (Antonius) finishes ahead in terms of profit after 50k hands he will be awarded an additional $1.5 million. If he loses to Dwan he only has to give him 500k. This stacks the odds in favour of Antonius, which is why it has made it appealing to other players like Phil Ivey and David Benyamine who have also accepted.
