Phillips And Schwartz Join Team Pokerstars

Pokerstars.com has added 2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP) final table winners Dennis Phillips and Ylon Schwartz to Team Pokerstars. The members of the famous ‘November Nine’ came in third and fourth place, respectively.

This recent announcement adds to the already impressive of former WSOP stars to Team PokerStars Pro.  Phillips and Schwartz join former WSOP winners Chris Moneymaker, Greg Raymer and Joseph Hachem as professional poker players who have become famous at the World Series of Poker, and who have made the WSOP famous in doing so.

Pokerstars and the World Series of Poker seem to go hand in hand in the years since Chris Moneymaker won the World Series in 2003 after winning a WSOP satellite for $40 on Poker Stars.  The ‘Moneymaker Effect’ shot the WSOP and online poker into the world spotlight, which has sparked a poker renaissance that continues to this day.  Thousands of World Series of Poker entries are given away every year at Pokerstars.com and other online poker rooms.

Dennis Phillips, known for his red St. Louis Cardinals hat and his hundreds of fans who wore the same cap to cheer him on, won $4.5 million for finishing in third place to the eventual winner Peter Eastgate and the runner-up Ivan Demidov.  Ylon Schwartz finished in fourth place, just behind Phillips, earning $3.77 million in the process.  Schwartz took a hiatus from professional poker to South America before deciding to come back to the poker world as a member of Team PokerStars Pro.  Schwartz is also n accomplished chess player.
