Poker Stars Introduces Online Team
A while ago Poker Stars announced that it would be forming a new pro team of top players to represent the site, this an online version of Team PokerStars Pro called Team PokerStars Online.
Only members of PokerStars VIP program who have made it to SuperNova Elite status were eligible to apply, which narrowed the pool down to 5,000. Of those 5,000, some 2,000 submitted applications to be on the team. And of those, 23 were selected, with a representation spanning 18 countries.
The roster for the original Team PokerStars Online includes 2008 WCOOP $25,000 Heads-Up champ Steve Jacobs, aka stevesbets; $200 rebuy winner and $10,000 guaranteed runner-up, Grayson Physioc, aka spacegravy; Irish Winter Festival 2005 event winner and 2008 EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final 37th placer Anders Berg, aka Donald; 2008 EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final 14th placer and the player with the self-appointed challenge of turning a five dollar bankroll into $100K, Thomas Boekhoff, aka Boku87; and one of the only three women on this twenty-three player team, the woman who wowed national audiences when ESPN televised the 2009 WSOP Main Event by coming in 75th place, Nichoel Peppe, aka NicP.
Though the roster is set for now, Poker Stars has already said that it’s going to add new members to Team PokerStars Online in the coming year. In the meantime, look for the site to add a feature that helps you to better track the progress of the players on Team PokerStars Online.
It’ll be particularly interesting to see how Team PokerStars Online fares compared with Team PokerStars Pro in 2010.
