Party Poker World Open V Around the Corner
Party Poker is once again hosting the World Poker Open and it’s almost time for the PartyPoker World Poker Open V to commence. But fortunately there’s still enough time to win a free entry into the event.
Oddsters are placing their bets on favorites Tom “durrrr” Dwan and J.C. Tran. But they’d better not get too confident, because 2009 WCOOP main event winner Yevgeniy Timoshenko, 2009 WSOP November Nine final tabler James Akenhead, and Team Party Poker leader Mike Sexton will also be there competing. Who will actually come out on top – and whether it will be a familiar name online poker or live poker pro or an unknown online poker amateur – is anyone’s guess.
The structure of the event sees players competing in a preliminary heat, with each one’s winner going to the World Poker Open V final table. There will also be a second-chance heat for the 2nd place finishers in each of the respective preliminary heats in the series.
Satellites for the PartyPoker World Open V run weekly, on Sundays at 2:15 pm ET with one $13,000 prize package being awarded for every 20 players registered. Direct buy-in costs $700 but players can satellite in via daily satellites starting at $3.
The PartyPoker World Poker Open V runs from October 11 to 15 at the Palm Beach Casino – not in Florida but in Mayfair near London, England. Direct buy-in costs $10,000. In all, only 48 players will be playing a share of the $489,000 prize pool. The $13,000 prize package includes the $10,000 event buy-in, $1,000 spending money, and 7 nights accommodations.
