PokerStars Americas Cup Qualifiers Going Now

Here’s a PokerStars promotion for all its players in the Western Hemisphere.

Among all the other big money poker events sponsored by PokerStars is the Americas Cup, a team poker competition where players from all the countries on both American continients compete to represent their country in a $150,000 final.

There are 10 teams in the 2010 Americas Cup, starting of course with the obvious 3: the US, Canada, and Mexico. Then there’s Venezuela, Peru, Columbia, Chile, Brazil, and Argentina. Finally, the pool is rounded out with a team named “Rest of LATAM” comprised of players representing all the Latin American nations not mentioned yet.

The qualifiers for the the PokerStars 2010 Americas Cup began today, March 15th and runs for an entire month, finishing up April 14th. The 2010 PokerStars Americas Cup qualifiers are structured as Sit ‘n Go tournaments that have three tiers, the freeroll tier, the 1l-cent tier (which you can win your way into for free via the freeroll tier), and the $1.10 tier. Performance in all three tiers is tracked with points on a leader board. At the end of this stage of the competition, those points will be added up and the countries with the most points will move on to the finals.

8 teams in all will compete in the Americas Cup Finals, and they will each be represented by the four players from their country who individually scored the highest in points on the overall leaderboard and their respective PokerStars pro team captain.

The Americas Cup Final then will happen in May of 2010 in South America at the lush and exquisite Iguazu Falls.

Cash prizes to the top three places will be $50,000, $35,000, and $20,000 respectively.
