New Jersey Legal Online Poker Faces New Opposition
The move for legal online poker for residents within the state of New Jersey is facing new opposition as of last week, when it was revealed that the New Jersey Casino Association is fully (and loudly) against it.
The New Jersey Casino Association, the representative body for all eleven land-based casinos in Atlantic City, o is in vociferous opposition to the bills soon to be coming before the state legislature that would create a referendum to permit online sports betting, online poker and online gambling.
The NJ Casino Association claims their rationale is that intrastate gambling might violate bans placed by federal law. But isn’t this really just about quashing competition before it starts? This blockade the NJ Casino Assoc. just flew up in legal instrastate online poker’s face will cause a delay in the state assembly’s review of the referendum, which was supposed to be making it to November’s ballot (though now we’re not so sure it’ll make it).
Meanwhile, many states are vying to be the first to allow legal online poker within their state borders, in spite of their own self-sabotaging legislature.
With such a widespread demand for both legal online poker, online sports betting, and online gambling, combined with an equally desperate need for more money for state and federal economies, this prohibition on online poker, online sports betting, and online gambling seems like its days are numbered.
On the pro side of this good fight is State Senator Ray Lesniak (D-Union) heading it up with Barney Frank-like enthusiasm, which endorsement by the iMEGA gaming association.
