Antonius Leads in Dwan’s Million Dollar Challenge, Durrrr Seems to Be Spreading Himself Too Thin

While the 2009 World Series of Poker is well underway, Patrik Antonius is still deadlocked with Tom Dwan (aka “Durrrr”) in Dwan’s notorious Million Dollar Challenge. At last sighting, in a single 700-hand session Antonius’s lead over Dwan had jumped to some $460k.

All Antonius has to do now to win Dwan’s challenge and beat him out of the promised $1 million is play tight and hold out until all 50,000 hands are played (so far, they’ve played out 15,000 of those hands).

A comeback is unlikely at this point for Dwan – who may have put his mouth before his money – as, so long as Antonius stays just $1 ahead of Dwan at the challenge’s end, Dwan has to fork over the promised mil. Making it harder for Dwan to get his head above water in his own challenge, no doubt, is the fact that he is taking on no less than 4 comers at once. Besides Antonius, Dwan is also simultaneously going at it with Gus Hansen, Phil Ivey, and Ziigmund.

This past 700-hand session may be the last we see of Antonius in this ongoing match, however, as he has firmly stated that he will not compete in Dwan’s challenge during the 2009 WSOP.

At only 21-years-old, Tom “durrrr” Dwan was an obvious rising star in both online and offline poker. Although he has yet to score a World Poker tour win or a WSOP bracelet, he’s stil had 2 in-the-money finishes. His name really broke into the limelight when in January of this year, he issued this now-notorious Challenge.
