Cake Poker Buys (And Plans To Return) T.J. Cloutier’s WSOP Bracelet – After They Have Some Fun With It First

If you hadn’t heard, T.J. Cloutier put his 2005 World Series of Poker gold bracelet on eBay. Last Wednesday, it has now been confirmed, that bracelet, for the 2005 $5,000 No Limit Holdem tournament was purchased by none other than the U.S. friendly poker site, Cake Poker. Well now, it has also been confirmed, Cake Poker plans to give that bracelet back to T.J. Cloutier, its rightful owner.

When T.J. won that bracelet 5 years ago, it was after beating Steven Zoine in a brutal heads-up end to a final table that featured fellow poker stars like Todd Brunson, son of Doyle Brunson, the Texas Dolly and Godfather of Poker, and a member of the poker pro team for DoylesRoom poker site. Also at that final table were Dustin “Neverwin” Woolf and John “World” Hennigan.

T.J.’s gold bracelet sold for $4,000, which is 165 times less than the prize money he earned for winning the tournament.

Of course, Cake Poker is not just going to give back their prize without having, “a little fun with it,” as they said in a press release. What that means, no one knows. But it’s sure to have an online poker promotion wrapped around it, no doubt.

The auction for T.J. Cloutier’s 2005 WSOP bracelet closed on eBay last Sunday, January 24. Stay tuned here to see what the folks at Cake Poker have in store for it before they give it back.

When pressed, Cloutier didn’t want to say too much about why he put the item up for auction, but he hinted enough for us to know that our first guess is probably right. He said, “I was short,” – something many of us can related to at the current time.

T.J. also sold the bracelet he won against Scotty Nguyen in the 2007 Poker Challenge IV, which sold for $2,500.
