Dan “Wretchy” Martin Banned But Not Out

Cheaters never win and winners never cheat, right? That’s the message Poker Stars and Full Tilt Poker are sending to the online poker community via Dan Martin, aka Wretchy. Dan got caught doing what he claims “everybody does,” namely playing online poker under more than one name and playing at the same tables as his girlfriend (a version of collusion). Wretchy admits the actions accused of him, he just doesn’t find anything wrong or unuual with it.

The online poker community appears to be divided on the subject.

Either way, Wretchy has been banned from Poker Stars (the site that caught him) for a period of 3 months, to end on August 6, and from Full Tilt Poker (just because they don’t want any trouble either, we presume) for a period of 30 days. Full Tilt took no action against Wretchy’s girlfriend, but PokerStars has insisted that the two of them may no longer play at the same tables.

Wretchy, meanwhile, is off in Vegas competing at the 2009 World Series of Poker, where he says the bans will only give him more time and energy to concentrate on preparing for the main event. By then the Full Tilt ban on him will already have expired, and he notes that he can always play on Ultimate Bet too.

Wretchy is a 22-year-old from Klamath Falls, Oregon, though he says he may be moving to the Denver, Colorado or Pacific Northwest area soon.

His recent online poker achievements include winner of a $150,000 Guaranteed and a $20,000 Guaranteed, and 2nd place in a $300,000 Guaranteed, all at PokerStars.
