ElkY Takes Second 2009 PokerStars WCOOP Title

After George Danzer’s big win in Event #19 of the PokerStars 2009 World Championship of Online Poker, another member of Team Poker Stars Pros has done his sponsor proud, by winning not one, but two bracelets at the 2009 WCOOP.

That winning Team PokerStars Pro would be Bertrand Grospellier, better known online as “ElkY”, and one of the biggest young rising stars in the poker world online and off. First he wins Event #38 (after coming in 19th in Event #37), a No Limit Holdem with 1 rebuy/1 add-on, against 1,168 others, for the largest share ($232,000 large) of the $1.3 million prize pool.

Then, just a few days later, he wins the event that basically acted as substitute for the PokerStars Sunday Million this weekend, Event #43, a $1 million guaranteed event that ended up to be an over $1.8 prize pool, after some 9,220 registered, with a $215 buy-in. By the time it was ElkY and two others, he refused a proposed pot chop (something many players would leap at), showing his confidence for the big win. Elky banked $263,323 for his second win, and earn a special status as one of only a few players to win multiple bracelets in a single year’s WCOOP.

Hailing from France, Bertrand Grospellier has earned 52 cashes and nabbed 5 titles in his poker career, amassing a career winnings of $6.873,147 million. His highlights include winning the second High-Roller event at the 2009 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, and before that, the 2008 WPT Festa Al Lago, Event #15 No Limit Holdem Championship.
