Matusow New Florida State Poker Champion

Mike “The Mouth” Matusow, member of Team Full Tilt Poker, has just won the 2010 Florida State Poker Championship, landing himself a first prize of just over $100,000 ($103K to be precise) for his efforts.

Forty-two year-old Matusow happened to be in the area for a different event, a DeepStacks U. poker seminar he was running and promoting at the Isle Casino and Racetrack in Florida’s Pompano Park, so he decided on the spur of the moment to stick around to compete in the $1,000 Florida State Poker Championship main event, only to wind up claiming the crown, the last of over 400 competitors.

While he was playing, Matusow was observed Tweeting and texting fans updates on the game and his performance. A Tweet from his final day of play read: “Chip leader 925k 19 left if I play 3 days in a 1k buy in and don’t win I will be in morgue.”

With this win, Mike Matusow now has a poker career earnings of over $6.5 million. He is also a 3-time World Series of Poker gold bracelet winner.

This win comes shortly after Florida lifted its cap on No Limit Hold’em tournament buy-ins (which was set at an absurdly low $100). In doing so, it opened the gates for a lot of green poker players to get in over their heads in heavily deep stacked tournaments, like this one. Experienced live poker players with some travel funds to work with might do well to take a trip to Florida to enrichen their bankrolls. Call it a working vacation.
