Mike Sexton Sole 2009 Inductee Into Poker Hall Of Fame
The decision has been made by Poker Hall of Fame committee as to who will be honored with induction into the Poker Hall of Fame for 2009. And as it turns out, after whittling it down from hundreds, there’s only one name on that list, it’s Mike Sexton.
The don’t call Mike “The Ambassador of Poker” for nothing. He’s the lead spokesperson for the world’s biggest poker site Party Poker and the long-standing commentator (along with Vince Van Patten) for the World Poker Tour’s televised broadcasts. The 62-year-old poker pro soon to be the 38th member inducted into the esteemed Poker Hall of Fame is on the top 10 of most cash-ins at World Series of Poker events, including one WSOP bracelet. He also won the 2006 Tournament of Champions, after a final, brutal heads-up battle with Daniel Negreanu, also on the short list for potential Poker Hall of Fame induction. Mike’s career poker winnings total more than $3.7 million.
So beloved is Mike Sexton in the poker world at large, both online and offline, that he received a whopping 75 percent of the vote. In commenting publicly on the announcement of his impending induction, Mike said he’s especially honored because 2009 marks the first time that fans, members of the mass media, and fellow poker players got to help vote on the final outcome.
In celebration of Mike’s achievement, the site he represents, Party Poker will be hosting a special $10,000 freeroll to be held on the same day as the 2009 WSOP Main Event Final Table and the official ceremony inducting Mike into the Poker Hall of Fame, November 7th.
