Patrik Antonius Breaks Online Poker World Record

Patrik Antonius has set the new world record for the largest online poker pot ever won, a sweet $878,958.50.

Tom Dwan may be the biggest name in online NL Holdem right now, but for one week, Patrik Antonius has stolen the headlines from him. This after “unknown” isildur1 makes quite a killing off both players on Full Tilt Poker’s high stakes heads-up tables of late as well.

That’s probably why Antonius’s big record-setting takedown was all the sweeter – because the player he took down in that nearly $900,000 hand was none other than isildur1 himself. Well talk about “what goes around, comes around”, never more true than in the world of poker.

The game was $500/$1,000 Pot Limit Omaha. Both players riding high with two-pair Aces and Queens at the turn, Antonius went All-In. Odds at the time of that bet were 62% that the pot would be split. Both had a gutshot straight draw then too, and Antonius happened to be the one lucky enough to pull it out on the river when he made his and claimed the largest single pot in online poker history.

Meanwhile, Antonius is still duking it out with Tom durrrr Dwan in their 500,000 hand, $1 million challenge. And isildur1 has just accepted durrrr’s challenge to face him live in a different poker challenge to be held soon in London, which is only fair considering Dwan dropped over $5 million into isildur1’s pocket over the course of one week ($3 million of it in one day).

Looks like this is a three-way rivalry sure to keep our attention for a long while.
