Poker Pro “Unabomber” Laak Sets New World Record For 115 Hour Poker Game
While elsewhere in Vegas the World Series of Poker was raging strong, one famous poker pro was at the Bellagio in the cash game of his life. That player was Phil “The Unabomber” Laak (now star of UnabomberPoker on the Cake Poker Network), and he played $10/$20 NL Hold’em for a record-breaking over 115 hours.
Phil Laak won close $7,000 in cash (nearly $6,766 to be exact) and he says he’s going to donate half of the money to a camp in Maine for kids with life threatening illnesses and their families. Plus, the money he made from selling memorabilia during the game he is donating to the charity.
Phil “The Unabomber” Laak, so named because of the hooded sweatshirt he usually wears when playing poker, with the hood covering his head. Laak’s been playing professional poker tournaments since 2004, and he’s already won a total of about $2,000,000.
Laak will have his name entered into the Guinness Book of World Records for the playing this 115 game, clamining the record for the longest game of poker. The previous holder of that title was Larry Olmsted who in 2004 played for 74 hours at Foxwoods. During the 115 hours, Paul says he did not drink any caffeine or take stimulants, and that he was allowed 5 minute breaks for each hour of playing. If he wanted to, he could bank the 5 minute breaks in order to accumulate a longer break. He did that at least once, taking a nap for 30 minutes.
