Poker Stars Team Member Wins Poker Stars Baltic Festival

The second annual Poker Stars Baltic Festival was won this year by none other than a member of Team PokerStars itself, that being William Thorson.

Thorson outlasted a playing field of over 200 players in the €1,400 PokerStars Baltic Festival Main Event for first ever No Limit Hold’em title in a major land-based tournament. The event, hailed as the biggest money poker tournament ever to take place in the Baltic States, attracting players from more than 20 countries worldwide, took place at the Swissôtel in Tallinn, Estonia, and boasted a prize pool totaling over 4.8 million Estonian Crowns, which equates to around €310,857.

Twenty-seven year old Thorson, hailing from Sweden, has successfully made it to four final tables at European Poker Tour (EPT) events, but this Baltic Festival Estonia event was his first win. Thorson wins 1.2 million Estonian Crowns for his efforts, which equates to around €80,823.

Thorson may have never won a major live poker tournament until now, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been successful in the game before (or else how could he ever have become a member of Team PokerStars, after all). In 2009 he won two EPT Season 6 Omaha side events, earning him the title Season 6 EPT Omaha Player of the Year. Thorson was also the player to last the longest in a PokerStars promotion earning himself a season in the main event of the PokerStars European Poker Tour Season 7 debut, EPT Tallinn. This event takes place in the capital of Estonia between August 11 and 16. And with the 2010 PokerStars Baltic Festival title under his belt, Team PokerStars Pro William Thorson is entering this EPT Tallinn event primed to win.

Poker Stars is always hosting qualifiers into the various European Poker Tour events. Check the PokerStars site for the latest EPT satellite opportunities.
