Poker Stars Wants Tom McEvoy To Be Next Poker Hall of Fame Inductee
PokerStars is edging for Tom McEvoy to be the next inductee into the Poker Hall of Fame.
Run by the World Series of Poker organization, the Poker Hall of Fame is accepting nominations from the general public until July 2. From these votes, the organization will compile a final “short list” of nominees from which 2 or 3 will be selected for induction, to take place on the Penn and Teller stage at the Rio Hotel and Casino during the 2009 WSOP Main Event.
Tom McEvoy was the recent winner of the first ever World Series of Poker Champions Invitational, held on this occasion of the 40th anniversary of the series, an exclusive poker tournament open solely to previous winners of the WSOP Main Event. Tom McEvoy won the WSOP Main Event in 1983 (for a $540,00 payday and the knowledge that he beat out Doyle Brunson who also sat at that year’s final table). For winning the WSOP Champions Invitational, besting a field of 20 WSOP champions, McEvoy won the Binions Cup and a mint-condition 1970 Corvette.
In all, McEvoy holds 4 World Series of Poker bracelets (tied for 19th most overall) and 37 cash finishes (tied for 26th most overall), though he has bee quoted as saying that this honor, if he does receive it, will be the true pinnacle of his career. Tom has also written extensively on the subject of poker.
Team PokerStars Pro member Greg Raymer is one of the many Poker Stars representatives campaigning for McEvoy’s induction.
