Reader Questions And Answers #2

I’m back for another round of questions and answers.  In this feature I go through the most popular questions that people search for to find Holdem Review and attempt to answer them.  If one person Googles a question, there are likely more people with the same question.  Here goes this week’s installment.

What is Holdem strategy for when blinds go up fast?

When blinds go up fast in a Texas Holdem tournament, you can limp into less pots and have to be more aggressive.  A lot can be written on ‘Holdem strategy for when blinds go up fast’, but the main point you must grasp is that even if you win a few pots and get a big stack, you must continue to be aggressive and ‘gamble’ more to stay ahead of the quickly increasing blinds.  Although this leads to a more erratic play and can be quite a roller coaster ride, you must continue to picks up pots and try to steal any chips you can gather.  For more info, read my article on ‘Short Stack Super Turbo Strategy‘.

How do I get money out of my online poker account?

If you are good enough to win at online poker, the next logical question is ‘How do I get money out of my online poker account?’  There are various ways to withdraw money from your online poker account, but the easiest and most reliable ways that I have found are paper checks and bank wire transfers for larger amounts.  You will have to verify your identity by submitting a copy of a driver’s license or other photo identification card.  Many online poker rooms also require a copy of a utility bill with your name on it verifying your home address.

Do I have to pay taxes on online poker winnings?

It’s tax time in the U.S., and this has been a hot question the last few weeks.  If you are an American, the answer is yes.  It does not matter that the U.S. government is trying to ban online poker; they just want your money.  Any money that an American citizen makes regardless of how or where, must be taxed.  Online poker is NOT illegal, but the IRS demands that you pay taxes on all income, whether that is from your job at a factory, or selling pot.  For more information on this, read ‘Paying Taxes on Online Poker Winnings.’

Does Cake Poker accept USA players?
