The 2010 WSOP Main Event Is Underway

The online poker satellites into the 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event are officially over as the 2010 WSOP Main Event itself is now officially underway. The 2010 WSOP Main Event started today, Monday, July 5.

Many poker sites, Full Tilt Poker among them, are promising an extra $10 million on top of the 2010 WSOP main event’s grand prize for one of its satellite winners if he (or she) happens to also win the 2010 WSOP Main Event. And it’s not as big a longshot as it sounds, with most of the World Series of Poker Main Event winners of the past half-dozen years or so being unknown players at the time of their win, of course, (Joe Hachem, notwithstanding) who won their seat in the event through an online poker satellite.

By July 17, 2010, just 12 days away, we will know who this year’s November Nine are, the November Nine being, of course, the 9 players skillful enough to make it to the final table, which as the name implies, is played out in November.

Already players and fans have seen 56 events go by in the 2010 WSOP with 56 gold bracelet winners. There’s just one more left and it’s the big one. The one that 21-year-old reigning champion Joe Cada, representing PokerStars, won last year in the 2009 WSOP Main Event.

Many people are wondering if living poker legend Phil Ivey can repeat his feat last year of making it to the November Nine, and then perhaps top his 7th place finish with 1st. Considering he just won his eight gold bracelet in this year’s series, it’s not such a longshot either. Phil Ivey, by the way, represents Full Tilt Poker.
