And 27…26…23 Remain: WSOP Main Event Final Day, Last Players Standing

It’s the final day of play at the WSOP Main Event before the November Nine are selected at the final table for the 2010 WSOP championship is set. That left 27 standing at the start of the day.

But at the time of this writing, with Johnny Lodden busting out in 27th place, Matthew Bucaric busting out in 26th place, Mads Wissing busting out in 25th place, and Ronnie Bardah busting out in 24th place, it takes us down to 23 players left vying for that one top spot, or at least one of those nine.

The top contenders for those spots, again at the time of this writing, are

  1. Joseph Cheong
  2. Soi Nguyen
  3. Matt Affleck
  4. Filippo Candio
  5. Pascal LeFrancois
  6. Jason Senti
  7. Matthew Jarvis
  8. Jonathan Duhamel
  9. John Racener

None of these guys is safe for a moment, though, as the chip stacks among the top 23 players remaining are pretty evenly distributed. With large chip stacks like these, averaging about 7 million (the equivalent of 60 big blinds), it really is still anybody’s game.

Of the “celebrity” poker players still in the running for the 2010 WSOP main event championship are Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi, Scott Clements, David Baker, and Pascal LeFrancois.

While Joseph Cheong is a California poker pro, trailing his chip lead by a mere fraction is Soi Nguyen, who is a poker amateur from Vietnam.

Regardless of how any of them finish now, at this point in the game all the players left will earn a six-figure payday for their accomplishments. At stake for the winner, though, is an $8.9 million first prize.
