Is A World Series Of Poker All Star Game In The Works?

Last Wednesday afternoon, a Tweet was posted on Twitter straight from the horse’s mouth as it were—the World Series of Poker officials themselves—that announced the possibility of a special WSOP All Star Poker Tournament appearing at this year’s series. No one knows yet what the composition of the contest will be, nor the players to be invited.

The Tweet inquired: “Which 20 WSOP Bracelet-Holders would you like to see compete in an All-Star game? Stay tuned… #WSOP.”

In 2009, fans saw the first World Series Of Poker Champions Invitational, featuring 20 prior WSOP Main Event winners battling it out in a tournament made specially for broadcast television with a top prize won by 1983 WSOP Main Event champ Tom McEvoy of a classic vintage 1970 Corvette automobile.

One event on the 2010 WSOP schedule Harrah released that’s new to the series is the $50,000 Player’s Championship (and that’s the buy-in, not the prize pool), held on May 28, the same day as Harrah’s annual $500 buy-in Casino Employees NL Hold’em tournament. The new high-rolling Player’s Championship will be a mixed game event comprised of: Limit Holdem, Omaha Hi-Lo Split 8 or Better, 7-Card Razz, 7-Card Stud, 7-Card Stud Hi-Lo Split 8 or Better, NL Hold’em, Pot Limit Omaha, and 2-7 Triple-Draw Lowball.

Though no specifics have been released, it looks like there may be 20 competitors in this upcoming premiere All-Star event. And if we had to guess who might be on that list, rivals Tom Dwan and Patrik Antonius might be at the top of the list, along with Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, and of-course 11-time bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth. And in the way of female poker All-Stars, it seem sit wouldn’t be an All-Star game without Vanessa Rousso or Kara Scott there, Not to mention Jennifer Tilly or Annie Duke.
