Basic Sit And Go Poker Strategy

Filed under: Tournament Strategy, Texas Holdem, Poker Strategy - 25 Feb 2008

Poker Sit And Go StrategySit and Go tournaments are single table freeze out tournaments that award cash prizes to the top two or three finishers. Sit and gos are a very different form of poker than any other. While the rules of the game remain the same, poker sit and go strategy is very different, and I think it could be considered a completely different form of poker altogether.  There is very little postflop play when you  attack sit and go tournament strategy correctly.  You will annoy the hell out of your opponents by pushing all in a lot and almost never calling anything.  It is very fun to piss off your opponents regularly and then take all of their chips.  Come on and admit it, you know it is.

Texas Holdem Poker - Basic Strategy

Filed under: Texas Holdem, Poker Strategy - 10 Feb 2008

Basic Texas Holdem StrategyOnce you have learned the basic rules of no-limit Texas holdem, you must begin to learn the basic strategy of the game. Learning about Texas Holdem strategy is a fun and exhilarating ride towards consistently making a profit while playing a game you love.

There are several key areas that must be mastered before moving on:

Starting Hands
Draws / Pot Odds
Aggression
Position

Starting Hands
This is the biggest area in which new poker players go wrong. The first thing sharks look for when searching for fish is how many hands their opponents are playing.

The large majority of your starting hands should be folded before you even get a chance to see the flop. Yes, I know that isn’t fun to hear but making good money at poker is more fun so don’t worry.

The problem with playing too many hands is two-fold. First of all, you may think something like “C’mon it’s only a couple extra bucks to see the flop! What if I win the pot!?” Well, over the long run those extra couple bucks will end up costing you more money than what the occasional win can make up for.

Think about it like this. The average online table runs about 60 hands an hour. If you play just two tables, that’s 120 hands an hour. It adds up quickly when it’s going away at a 120 hands per hour.

The other problem with playing too many starting hands is

Texas Holdem Poker Rules - Official Rules Of No Limit Texas Holdem

Filed under: Texas Holdem, Poker Strategy - 06 Feb 2008

The first step in your quest to become a world famous poker star is to learn the rules. A hold ‘em hand can be broken up into 6 distinct steps:

Setup
Preflop
Flop
Turn
River
Showdown

Setup
This step is just getting everything set up to play the hand. The dealer is different every hand - the responsibility moves clockwise around the table from player to player. The dealer of each hand doesn’t usually deal the cards himself; it’s just a position that’s marked by a disc that says “dealer’s button” on it. The players can pass the deck around each hand and deal from it, but usually there’s a full time dealer who takes care of that. From now on, when I refer to the “dealer” I mean the guy who has the dealer’s button that hand, not actually the card handler.
