2008 PokerStars World Championship Of Online Poker
The seventh annual Poker Stars World Championshiop of Online Poker starts on September 5th. PokerStars has added nine new events to this year’s schedule and is expecting record numbers of players and prize pools. In total, there is $30 million guaranteed prize pool for all the events combined!
There are 33 events on this year’s slate at the PokerStars WCOOP, culminating in a $10 million guaranteed main event that will be held over two days on September 21 and 22. This is expected to be the largest prize pool in the history of online poker.
The PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker has seen incredible growth in the seven years since its inception in 2002. That year, the entire series consisted of only nine events and the biggest attracted only 500 players. That WCOOP attracted only 2,452 players total and the total prize pool of all the events totalled under $800,000.
This year’s WCOOP is expected to blow away all previous tournaments. Buy-ins range from $215 to $5,200 for the WCOOP Main Event and a $10,300 H.O.R.S.E. tournament. There is something for just about everyone. Poker Stars is also holding a series of qualifying tournaments in which you can win entry to the larger events for as little as $2 or even for free in their special freeroll satellite tournaments.
Players are guaranteed prize pools of at least $1 million in seven of the events on this year’s schedule with the Main Event guaranteed a minimum of a $10 million prize pool. This year’s World Championship of Online Poker is not only the biggest online poker event, it is also one of the biggest poker tournaments in the world, live or online.
