About Western Union Poker Deposits
Before depositing at an online poker site with Western Union, you should know a few things about Western Union and their poker deposit fees:
- Western Union’s transaction fees are a little high.
- There are no set transaction fees at Western Union. The fees for each transaction vary.
- There are very few online poker sites that accept Western Union deposits.
Making a Poker Deposit Using Western Union
PokerStars is the only online poker site that offers fully automated online deposits using Western Union. The two other poker sites that accept Western Union (Bovada Poker and BetOnline Poker) require that you call their customer support phone numbers to complete a Western Union poker deposit over the telephone. I have made a deposit to Poker Stars using Western Union, and it was quick and easy. The whole automated Western Union deposit proccess took about 30 minutes for the funds to show up in my PokerStars account.
Making a Western Union Deposit at Bovada
If you do not have a Bovada account, you must first:

- 1. After signing up at Bovada, go to the cashier page and choose to “Buy Chips” using Western Union. There will then be a button that says, “Instructions on how to send us money through Western Union.” Click that button.
- 2. A pop-up window will appear with a NAME that you need to send the money to. It will be something like “Jorge Madrigal” and the country will usually be Costa Rica or another Latin country.
- 3. If you don’t already have a Western Union account you will need to now sign up at www.westernunion.com. It only takes a few minutes to register your free Western Union account.
- 4. After registering for Western Union, you want to choose the option that says “Send Money” then “Send Money in Minutes”.
- 5. Go through the short steps. Now enter the NAME that was on the Bodog pop-up window in step #2.
- 6. After you send the money you MUST copy the MTCN number and verify it at the Western Union deposit page at poker stars. You get there by clicking cashier > buy chips > Western Union > Deposit > “Enter Western Union Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN).
- 7. Wait for the Western Union transfer to go through. It generally takes around 30 minutes to complete if you request it between 9:30 and 23:30 EST (Eastern Standard Time). If you request a transfer outside of that time frame, you must wait until the Western Union offices open at 9:30 EST for your money to be deposited.

Western Union Poker Deposit Alternatives
If you cannot use Western Union for any reason, you can try MoneyGram. Money Gram is a competing service similar to Western Union, but it only charges a $9.95 USD flat fee for all transactions, which is very convenient if you are attempting to deposit a lot of money to your online poker account.
