PKR Poker – The Next Generation of 3d Online Poker

Note – Since PKR Poker is not open to players from the United States, my friend Alex from England who runs  PKRcode.net wrote this review for me.

PKR Overview

With the release of PKR being announced long before it was due to feature, the buzz surrounding the site was massive.

Players were seeing commercials, videos and screen shots of the site which were highlighting the intense graphics that the site was promising to deliver to the players.

Were these promises delivered upon?

I am happy to reveal that PKR and its software producers delivered the promises and the site in general with great detail and success.

Described by the poker industry media as Texas Hold’em meets ‘The Sims’, PKR has captured a massive audience, with players flooding to the 3d virtual felts to sample the game play and user interaction that a site with such in-depth graphics and workmanship was bound to offer.

The creation of the 3d gaming engine which the site is powered by means that the site can not be compared to any other poker site in the world.

Ok, so what is all the buzz and excitement all about?

Well I have decided to document an in-depth review, covering every detail and not missing a thing, ensuring that you get the total low down surrounding the online poker room that has been described as ‘…the site that has left the industry on tilt’ by Online Gambler, an internet based magazine.

PKR Software

This has to be the starting point of the review due to the huge amount of accolades that the software has received from players who are currently playing at the site. With industry leaders Pokerstars and Full Tilt Poker offering a 2d playing experience something extremely special was going to be needed to rock the online poker industry due to the sheer number of online gambling sites online.

PKR software features a state of the art engine that has enabled the company to produce something that has only every been seen previously within console gaming versions of the game.

Features such as ‘Face Regenerator’ and the ability to custom create an avatar, a representative of yourself when you are seated at the table, has rocked the sites popularity into orbit.

I had the ability to create my avatar from facial structures such as how I wanted my cheek bones and how big of a nose I wanted to give myself, right up to if I wanted my avatar to be wearing a set of DJ headphones while sitting at the felts.

The customisation of a character isn’t completely free thought, with PKR Points been needed to buy items from the virtual store but don’t worry, I was credited 1,500 points on deposit to the site which gave me more than enough to create my character as I wanted.

Once I seated my avatar at a table, the fun began to really start, with me selecting actions and movements that I wanted my character to do while sitting at the table. Starting off with a steady ‘Hi’ as I waited for the blinds to come round to me, I progressed into dancing in my seat, performing selected poker tricks and even moving on to flirting with the female players who were seated with me.

Never before have I had so much fun at an online poker table, so much so when my pocket aces were broken by jack – ten off suit I couldn’t help but laugh as I typed in one of the hidden commands [ /rude ], listening to my character tell the winner exactly where his cards should have been, left me in fits of laughter.

The fact that the software must have taken so long to create due to its extreme detail, I’m sure that I would have been forgiven for thinking that the navigation around the site would be like rocket science, I mean a site that is going to offer this much in playability and user interaction has to have some sort of downfall surely?

How wrong I was.

The site is so easy to find your way about, using the bold large buttons within the lobby to move myself from the real money ring tables to the freeroll tournaments and scheduled specials that they offer and back again. Game Selection Available At PKR

PKR has based its software across a number of poker styles and games with arguably the most popular games available to play.

Personally I play a lot of Texas Hold’em poker with me learning the game from a young age.

I was pleased to see that the online poker site had decided to offer a few others games too including Omaha and Omaha Hi/Lo as I have been trying my hand playing a few games of the Omaha style.

With some of the industry’s leading names preferring Omaha over Texas Hold’em it would have been a huge mistake on PKR’s part to have not included this within their site offering.

I decided that I was going to try my luck at the felts, joining one of the many tables available to me from the lobby, with many tables having a minimum of players already seated.

As my luck started to wear thin I also thought about trying out the micro tables that the site has to offer, taking my seat firmly within an 8 person table with my final $4 stake sat in front of me.

A highly enjoyable experience that was too, taking almost double the amount from two other players within my first ten hands.

PKR Player Base (Traffic)

With the huge build up that was created for the release of PKR players were dying to sign up to the site on its release, with some players saying two months in advance that they were unable to wait to join up.

The site has been open for just under twelve months now and boasts a player base of over 1,500,000 members, with an average of 10,000 players online in the sites peak periods.

With figures like those it was no wonder that I never struggled to find at least players sitting at the tables of my preferred stakes $0.25/$0.50 table.

With the addition of multi-tabling the site is as busy as ever, with many players entering up to four games at a time, so getting my poker fix was as simple as deciding how much I was willing to spend.

Tournaments at PKR

The tournament schedule when I looked over it was great to see, with many of the tournaments offering guaranteed prize pools I don’t think I have ever seen a site offer such an appealing tournament line up.

Thrown into the deal to make it a whole lot sweeter were tournaments that gave me the opportunity to try to gain entry into PKR Live events, these tournaments are created by PKR and offer a large cash pool for the placing finishers. The PKR Live series of tournaments are all aiming to give players entry into its main event which is played as a live tournament in London while been covered by the sites PKR TV channel which is available to all poker fans across the world.

With the guaranteed $1.8 million been paid out in tournament prizes each month, the site will keep me playing here for a long time.

I was pleased to see that with the busy schedule that the site was offering, that they had not forgotten about freerolls. Freerolls are a great way that players can earn extra bankroll without investing real money for a buy in. Ok, so I’m still to win one of these but with the low PKR Points buy-ins for the tournaments I’m sure to have plenty of opportunity.

PKR Promotions

Like other sites PKR offer promotions to try to convince players to join their chosen poker site so that they can too become an industry leader in regards to their play base not just their software.

With that in mind the site offers regular special events to players, some of which I will be trying my luck at, with the PKR Masters $100,000 guaranteed tournament looking my likely choice.

Not only do you get the PKR bonus code that offers you matches in the deposits that you make into your account but I also managed to find a site that offered 30 percent PKR rakeback on top of the deposit match.

This was great news for me as with me liking to play real money ring tables I generate quite a lot of rake, so getting some of that back is going to help my experience be that little more exciting.

As I write this review PKR is rolling out yet another of their seasonal promotion tournaments which is offering me the chance to win a seat into the World Series of Poker 2009 Main Event. Yet another reason that I will be placing my funds firmly into my players account.

PKR Security

With just one look at the site I knew that it was going to have a ‘super power’ behind it, creating a site that offers what PKR does is no easy trait so you know that there is a huge development team that is hidden behind the company name.

With such a big development team PKR have done a great job in securing the site, with nothing even been rumoured to have been accessed or placed into dispute.

I don’t know about you guys but the security of a site is a huge factor for me in where I play my poker, after all who wants to place $500 into a site to come up against some computer bot that scans your cards? No one.

PKR Support

I decided that the best way possible for me to be honest about this was to make an issue that was a mole hill into a mountain, I thought that maybe a little bit of panic would really add the situation onto the back burners.

I don’t know about you but I know that on some sites I can wait up to 3 days for a reply to a support email when all I was asking for was a change in password…

Well I was shocked to see that within 30 minutes of making my ‘inflated’ issue to the email support team I was contacted and the issue sorted.

I mean come on, 30 minutes?

You have to admit that for a site of 1.5 million members that is a rapid response.

PKR Deposit and Withdrawal Methods

With PKR trying to open the game up to as many real money players as possible they have made it extremely simple for players like me to both deposit and withdraw funds.

Unlike the other sites that I have visited, they only offer a small number of ways to deposit into the site but all the methods that are available when placing your funds into the site are available when withdrawing too.

This meant that after placing $500 into the site from my visa card, I was able to replace the funds a few days later, paying it directly back onto the card.

While withdrawing my initial deposit so that the wife didn’t do me in, I saw that the other methods for deposit are that basic few:
