Getting Started at Holdem Review

While the focus of my site is online poker room reviews, I have also put together some more specific resources.
Since I am an American, one of the first things I have done is put together a list of the best poker sites that accept U.S. players.
If you are an American looking to play poker for real money, I have an article that explains how to deposit money to play online poker. There are poker rooms that still accept credit cards and instant checks from Americans.
If you are looking to play poker on a Mac like I do, you should check out my Mac poker guide. I have also compiled a list of the best online poker rooms for a Mac that is helpful if you want to start playing quickly.
If you'd like to learn about playing Texas holdem, I would recommend starting out with the official rules of Texas holdem or my basic Texas holdem Strategy article. If you are already familiar with how to play, make sure to avoid the 8 most common mistakes in no-limit Texas holdem or for you more advanced players, I would recommend reading How To Master Poker.
I also have some good heads up Texas holdem strategy, and a guide on how to win at sit and go poker tournaments.
Below are all of the latest poker articles that I have written. I try my best to add at least one new article a day so bookmark this site or just simply subscribe to my RSS feed and get new posts delivered directly to you daily.
I hope you enjoy my site!

Canadians make up a large percentage of online poker players. Besides Americans and UK poker players, Canadians make up the largest percentage of poker players online.
Internet poker in Canada has never been more popular. There are hundreds of thousands, if not 1 million + Canadian online poker players on the internet today. While many poker sites pulled out of America in 2006, all of those sites still accept Canadians.
Is online poker legal in Canada?
Absolutely. Online poker in Canada is alive and well. The Canadian government allows its Canadian citizens to play at any online poker room that they want.

Echecks are one of the easiest and fastest ways for Americans and Canadians to deposit money at online poker rooms. With a limited number of options for North American players to choose from when depositing money on an online poker site, eChecks are becoming a more attractive option because of their ease of use and speed of delivery.
Most eChecks are processed and sent instantly to your online poker account.
How eChecks work
Using an eCheck is very simple. Sometimes the e-check process can be called EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) or ECP (Electronic Check Processing).
When you input the information from your checking account into the deposit screen of your favorite …

Former 2005 World Series of Poker runner-up Steve Dannenmann has filed a patent for “Wager insurance for a no-limit texas hold’em poker game.”
He and two other men filed a patent on April 17th, 2008 that allows for a player to take out an insurance policy while in the middle of playing a hand of No-Limit Texas Holdem to protect against the financial loss of losing that hand.
Essentially, when two players are all in, the player with the mathematical edge to win the hand can take out an insurance policy from the house to cover him/her in the event of a bad beat.
Here is the full abstract that describes …

Sit and go poker tournaments may be my favorite form of poker on the internet. I have made a living for months at a time playing nothing but no limit sit and gos online.
There is a lot of money to be made if you know proper sit and go tournament strategy. Once you have a good sit & go strategy, the most important thing is to find the right competition to play against.
I have personally increased my profits by more than 20% just by switching sit and go poker rooms. That may sound far-fetched to you, but it is absolutely true.
The online poker room that …

Even though draws are one of the biggest problem areas for new players, they are actually pretty easy to play if you can get a few basics down.
The main problem players have with draws is playing them way too passive. Draws are not good hands to check and call with in the hopes of getting the right card. The only time you should be calling with draws is when you’re getting the right pot odds.
Playing draws with aggression is the effective way to play them.
Aggression in poker is one of your biggest weapons in almost any situation. Aggression with draws means you either bet and raise them or …

The WSOP could be in for big changes in 2008.
Rumors have been swirling that big changes may be coming for this year’s World Series of Poker. Harrah’s is considering delaying playing the final table up to three months from the WSOP main event in June. Industry insiders have caught word that Harrah’s is seriously considering this very big change for the WSOP in 2008, which is only a few months away. This would be a drastic change from the way the final table has been played for years.
That means that the thousands of participants would play down to the final nine players as usual, but …

No download poker rooms offer a flexibility that download only poker software cannot. Without downloading any software onto your computer, you can play online poker in your web browser. The advances in no download Java-based online poker technology have made the best versions hard to tell from their downloadable versions.
The advantage of using no download Java-based online poker software is that you truly can play anywhere. You can play on a friend’s computer, at work, at school, at the library, at your favorite coffee shop and all the other places that you shouldn’t be playing online poker. (If you get fired or expelled or get …

For Mac users who are looking to play online Texas holdem, it can be tough to find the right Mac compatible online poker site to play at. I bought a Mac notebook recently, and I had to search for online poker rooms that support Mac computers. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to use download or no download poker software. I wasn’t sure which poker room would work and look best on my Mac.
Luckily, I have a lot of online poker experience, so I know which poker rooms have the best Texas holdem action. So I have tried out a bunch of Mac poker rooms and found out which online …

Why do you think good players are called sharks? Aggression.
All long term winning poker players share one thing in common: they play an aggressive poker game. Aggression in poker doesn’t mean bluffing a lot, it means playing your hands with confidence. An aggressive player doesn’t make a lot of checks and calls, he either raises his hands or he folds them.
Aggressive players come in with raises preflop, not weak calls. After the flop, aggressive players bet and raise their strong hands and fold the hands that don’t pan out. They don’t make weak calls, not knowing where they stand, hoping to get lucky and …
