Getting Started at Holdem Review

While the focus of my site is online poker room reviews, I have also put together some more specific resources.
Since I am an American, one of the first things I have done is put together a list of the best poker sites that accept U.S. players.
If you are an American looking to play poker for real money, I have an article that explains how to deposit money to play online poker. There are poker rooms that still accept credit cards and instant checks from Americans.
If you are looking to play poker on a Mac like I do, you should check out my Mac poker guide. I have also compiled a list of the best online poker rooms for a Mac that is helpful if you want to start playing quickly.
If you'd like to learn about playing Texas holdem, I would recommend starting out with the official rules of Texas holdem or my basic Texas holdem Strategy article. If you are already familiar with how to play, make sure to avoid the 8 most common mistakes in no-limit Texas holdem or for you more advanced players, I would recommend reading How To Master Poker.
I also have some good heads up Texas holdem strategy, and a guide on how to win at sit and go poker tournaments.
Below are all of the latest poker articles that I have written. I try my best to add at least one new article a day so bookmark this site or just simply subscribe to my RSS feed and get new posts delivered directly to you daily.
I hope you enjoy my site!

It’s hard to stress just how important position is in poker. Position in poker is a lot like position when rebounding in basketball. You may be shorter than your opponent (have a worse hand), but if you have position on him you will grab the rebound (win the pot) most of the time.
Position in poker is the most important part of the game. That’s right, even more important than your cards.
If you don’t consider your position before making every decision at the table, you are costing yourself money. Did you know that almost all the money you make in poker will be made from late …

Your starting hands in no limit Texas holdem should be chosen carefully in no limit because they serve as the foundation of the rest of the hand. Choosing your starting hands wisely won’t automatically make you a big winner, but it will start you on the right path.
Players who play too many starting hands cost themselves money in two ways: first, they pay money to see flops with trashy hands and second, they get into difficult and often expensive situations with weak hands.
When choosing your starting hands, the goal is to play strong hands that are easy to play well after the flop. This means that the appropriate …

I am primarily a cash game player, so I have decided to let you in on where I play Texas holdem cash games. Although every good player that joins the games that I play at makes it harder for me, I feel that there enough fish for everyone. Especially at the sites that I frequent. The competition at many poker sites can be very difficult, making it nearly impossible for even the best players to make money. It is no fun and a waste of time to sit at a poker table playing against a bunch of tough players grinding it out against …

It’s funny how such a minor difference in the betting rules between limit and no limit Texas holdem makes such a huge difference between the two games. From a strategy perspective, limit and no limit hold ‘em are completely different games. Even though you probably aren’t learning both game types at the same time, this article will give you some insight into some of the basic principles behind whichever game you’re learning.
There are several major differences between the two games. These are a little oversimplified but I’ll address each point in more detail.
Limit holdem is about making consistently correct decisions in every pot. No limit is about …

Is it truly possible to learn how to master no limit Texas holdem poker by reading a single article? Not even close. The reason I so brazenly named this article “How to Master Poker” is because, although no single resource can single-handedly teach someone how to master the game, this article will teach you how to learn. Basically, I’m going to teach you what resources are good for advanced topics and how you should think. You must remember that there is always more to be learned. No matter what stakes you play at, there’s something out there you don’t know. Always be …

For American poker players, the most vexing problem you are faced with today is how to deposit money to play online poker.
When Congress passed a law making it more difficult to deposit money into online poker accounts in 2006, online poker rooms were caught unprepared, and that led to many people with no way to get money online. It is still quite a problem to deposit money with online poker sites if you don’t know which poker rooms offer the best options to deposit money online for players in the U.S.
But now a few years later, online poker rooms are coming up with more convenient and more reliable …

Today Full Tilt Poker released an upgrade to their software. They have added many new features that are a significant step forward. Full Tilt has introduced tournament dollars (T$), which replace satellite entries with a currency that is redeemable to play in any tournament, not just the one you won entry into.
This is the same concept that Poker Stars has had in place for years. There will now be tournaments on Full Tilt where the prizes are paid in tournament dollars. You can use tournament dollars to buy in to any multi-table or single-table sit and go tournament.
You can also convert T$ into cash via the cashier in the Full Tilt …

A continuation bet is the bet a poker player places on the flop after having raised preflop, regardless of whether or not the flop hit the player’s hand. Say, for example, you raise preflop with AK and get one caller. The flop comes 56Q and the opponent checks to you. You throw out a 3/4th pot bet, the opponent folds and you take the pot down. You have just made a continuation bet.
Continuation bets are funny things because they represent great strength but are always regarded with suspicion at the table. The person placing the continuation bet raised preflop and followed through with a big bet …

As anyone who owns a Mac and loves playing online poker can tell you, there is a serious shortage of online poker rooms for a Mac. There have only been a few top-tier poker sites available for the Mac and even less with downloadable poker software for a Mac. Players have been foaming at the mouth waiting for the biggest online poker room to enter the Mac poker scene. Poker Stars has heard your cries, and they now have a mac version of their award winning, critically acclaimed poker software. Poker Stars for a Mac was recently released in a beta-testing version.
While still not quite 100%, the Pokerstars …
